3rd Generation Family-Owned Business

In 2017, I bought my very own property, with the intentions to raise and process only a couple of meat chickens. This was something that simply began as a part time business, but instead has turned into something much bigger. And here we are, four years later, Jessi’s Chickens is in the works of expanding with a new building and a certified kitchen.
For those who do not know of me, my name is Jessica Hoover, aka the chicken lady. However, some of you might recognize me from the Westmoreland County Farm Service Agency, where I have been a program technician for 6 ½ years. Farming has always been a part of my life. Nearly 30 years ago, I was born into a farm family, and was raised on our family’s dairy farm in Kecksburg, PA, where we raised and milked 60 cows, until retiring that side of the family business in 2019.

Just a few short years ago, while still living on the family farm, I started raising a couple small batches of meat birds every year, just to sell to friends and family. However, in 2017, all of that changed when I moved to my new property. This is where my business exploded, causing me to expand from an average of 75 birds,

to well over 350 meat birds and 75 Thanksgiving turkeys, just in the first year alone.

For this coming year, we are putting together a cookbook with our favorite chicken recipes, as well as branching out to more farmer’s markets. We are always on the move to expand, this once side gig, into something bigger and better than ever before, so continue to watch for all of our new additions.

The business might be called Jessi’s Chickens, but all it could not be possible without the help of my family, friends, and our loving and supporting customers!
